DO YOU eat three meals a day? If so, by the time you are 70 years old, you will have consumed over 75,000 meals. For a typical European, that will mean eating—among other things—some 10,000 eggs, 5,000 loaves of bread, 100 sacks of potatoes, 6 sides of beef, and 2 sheep. Does all that eating amount to a chore? Far from it! How we relish hearing such expressions as "enjoy your meal" or "guten Appetit" or "bon appétit"! The head of a cooking school went so far as to say: "Food is the essence of life."

Most of the time, we may tend to take it for granted that the food we consume is wholesome and healthful. But if just one of those 75,000 meals were to contain something harmful, we could get seriously ill. Can we be sure that what we eat is safe? These days, more and more people seem to have doubts on that score. In some countries food safety has become a major concern. Why?

Causes of Concern

Each year, foodborne illness affects about 15 percent of the population of Europe. In the early 1980's, for instance, toxic cooking oil in Spain killed about 1,000 people and made another 20,000 seriously ill. In 1999 the population of Belgium was aghast when it was reported that such items as eggs, poultry, cheese, and butter were possibly contaminated by a poison called dioxin. More recently, Britain's consumers were horrified—and its beef industry was shattered—when cattle became infected with bovine spongiform encephalopathy (mad cow disease). Then there was an outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease, which required the slaughter and disposal of millions of cows, sheep, pigs, and goats.

Grave though such risks are, there are other factors that worry people when it comes to food. Consumers are troubled by new techniques that are now being used in the growth and processing of foodstuffs. The European Commission wrote in 1998: "Novel technologies like food irradiation and genetic engineering of food crops have caused a lot of controversy." Do such modern scientific techniques improve our food or adulterate it? And what can we do to increase the safety of our own food?

I haven't written an entry for a while... Funny. I was busy creating music videos!  Masaya naman! I get to jam with Red now unlike before, I was really "bano"! Masaya talaga ako sa kinalabasan ng mga pagsisikap ko kahit hindi ganun kapulido, maayos-ayos naman na ang pagtugtog ko.  Masaya talaga ang kumanta.

I learned that...

to be able to play the guitar beautifully, you have to be comfortable with it. Minsan, nawawala pa rin ako pero basta, basta... I learned a lot talaga for these past few weeks. Lalo na kakapanood sa mga artists sa youtube. Talagang sineseryoso e no? Wahahah!

Ang dami ko namang problema(lahat ata ng klase ng problema) noong mga nakaraang linggo... Hehehe... Ginoo... Pero buti na lang hindi pa rin ako stressed dahil sa mga "animals". Ang saya talaga ng buhay ko... Plus the nice comments from my multiply friends. Wihihihi.... Buti na lang masiba si salvhie, isang tawag ko lang sa kanya(basta ililibre) dumarating agad siya. She's or He's my bestfriend talaga for life... Siya yung nasa pic o.

Congrats Karli. :D Sa wakas, graduate ka na... Pumapalag-palag pa. Hahaha! Papa redski, penge money. hehe...

And of course, i'd also like to congratulate your thesis partners. After a year na pagiging tamad sa wakas, naisipan niyo na rin tapusin. Galing talaga...

At gusto ko din i-congratulate si Pio, wigi and the rest of the team for winning the 9th place sa katatapos lang na Philippine Inter-collegiate Programming Competition.

    At higit sa lahat, ang UP Morons(pangalan talaga ang nag-dala, i'm sure si Reginaldo ang pumili nito.) na sina Marte, Red baliw and Ralph na champion, na-solve ang 5 problems out of 6! At, hindi lang yan, and the 2nd placer(Ateneo) was able to solve 3 problems only! Galing talaga ni idol Marte... At ang malupit pa diyan, may trip to Singapore pa ang mga programming wizards na ito! Sana maka-sama ako...  Sabi ko na sa Texhnonex(may post ako tungkol sa Texhnonex) na lang kayo magpa-gawa ng software e.  Yahey!

Haay... nakaka-tuwa talaga... Salamat po...

Kaya siya nag-punta ng Surigao kasi.. hindi ko alam. Siguro kasi walang nangyayari sa kanya dito. Minsan magaling lang siya mag-salita pero walang gawa. Hehe...

Naaalala ko din na hindi siya naliligo ng mga 2 weeks. Yuck! Para pag-tumabi siya sa isang tao mababahuan sa kanya. Hahaha! Isa na ako dun. Tapos tatawa lang siya. Minsan naman hindi siya lalabas ng bahay, try lang kung anong feeling ng walang friends. Baliw na. But after a while naman, lalabas ulit siya at magkikwento ng mga natutunan niya in a week. Kaya siguro mahilig din ako mag-kwento ng natututunan ko...

Masasabi ko na practical talaga siya. Sa lahat ng bagay parati niya inuuna ang kapakanan ng iba. That's more important than himself. Matatawa yun pag-nabasa niya to... Sasabihin sakin nun, "parang tanga, ang drama".. hehhe...

Sabi niya, ako daw ang bestfriend niya kasi maganda daw ako, matalino, mabait at marami pa. Joke. Hindi talaga yun ang dahilan. hahaha! Kasi wala lang makausap na matino sa lugar namin. Puro kasi kriminal e. hehe...

Ang iniisip ko ngayon. I miss you tabatino... Tabatino is the most influential person in my life. He's one of my childhood friends. Kahit na he's older than me, mga 5-6 years yata, hindi yun naging hindrance for him to become my closest friend ever.

Okay, i'll just describe him first. Kuya Dong is very practical, funny at the same time intelligent. I think he's one of the most intelligent people that I've ever met. Not because he's an academe but there's something in him na mapapa-nganga ka kapag nag-sabi siya ng mga ideas niya tungkol sa isang bagay... Hindi siya corny e, yung parang katulad ng iba diyan na corny ang pagka-talino, na sobrang seryoso... Siya, most of the time, dinadaan niya sa biro ang lahat pero hindi mo alam analogy niya pala yun. Basta, hindi ko madescribe.  And, i never saw him got angry kahit kanino. Tsk, tsk, tsk... Tatawa lang yun...

At ako, ako naman ang nasobrahan niyang bersiyon. Hahaha!

Pangarap namin makapag-patayo ng isang business kung saan ang mga employees ay mga pulubi, kriminal at kung sinu-sino pang nawalan ng pagasa sa buhay. O diba, kabog! Naaalala ko na madalas kami mag-debate nun ni kuya dong e. Parati kami nag-sisigawan. Sabi ko sa kanya, pwede naman na mag-debate na hindi sumisigaw. Sabi niya, may impact daw yun sa ka-debate. Hahaha... Sabi ko, wala, sinigawan ba naman ako, so, i realized na meron nga. Haha! tumalsik ba naman laway niya e. hehe... joke lang. Pasintabi po.

Kung pwede nga lang ako pumunta sa Surigao e. I really really miss him...
